Born in Manchester of Irish parents (Belfast) Michael the youngest of 12 children began singing at an early age, yet it was not until his eldest brother John told him that he sounded ‘OK’ that he began to take himself seriously!
Michael was invited to appear at a ‘Daniel O Donnell North West of England Fan Club Association’ function, at which Daniel O’Donnell was present. Daniel was very much taken by Michael and his performance, so much so that he invited Michael to sing three songs at his much-coveted Donegal Shore festival in Kincasslagh. Michael was so well received, that he actually performed on three consecutive nights, one of which was his own concert, that was added to the events own schedule. He also performed at the signing of Daniels mother’s new book, in the town of Dungloe; after a two and half hour show outside the store, both Michael and Daniel stopped the traffic, when they sang together to the massing crowds.
Enjoy Travel, the ‘Country and Irish music festivals abroad’ specialists were very quick to notice Michael’s growing popularity and quickly snapped up the opportunity to have him perform on their highly successful festival trips. Michael has been performing all over Europe with them including Spain and Portugal and on the Cruise ships MV Discovery and MSC Musica and continues to do so throughout 2010 & 2011.
To date Michael has performed all over the UK at many theatres and festivals as well as in Ireland. In the past he has appeared at the Irish World Awards, the inaugural Pride of Eireann Awards and performed the Christmas season of shows at the prestigious Harveys Point in Donegal. In 2009 he was invited to launch the infamous Manchester Irish Festival.
Michael has also performed at shows in both the UK and Ireland with a vast array of well known Country and Irish Stars including: Susan McCann, Philomena Begley, Larry Cunningham, John McNicholl, James Peake, Sharon Turley, Fiddler Adam, Shawn Cuddy, Michael English, Hugo Duncan, Deirdre Bonner, Stephen Smyth, Brian Coll, The Fureys, Johnny McEvoy, Johnn Carroll, Tony Stephens, The Conquerors, Eamon McCann and many more….
He has guest presented on Joe Casserley’s highly successful Full Irish Radio Show and in 2009 Michael was invited to host his own Country & Irish Radio show on Tyne FM each Sunday at 9pm. Over the last year it has become a great success. This allows him to promote any event at which he performs, but also other local events in any area as the show airs all over the world.
A very bright future beckons for this talented and very personable young man. His shows offer a mixture of classic country and Irish songs together with a carefully chosen selection of powerful ballads, which display his excellent vocal ability. He has already acquired a loyal fan base, and wherever he performs is definitely a great hit with the ladies. What also stands Michael out is his unique stage presence, his personal presentation and his audience communication.
Michael is presently performing as a duo, trio or full band depending on the venue. He recorded his latest album with his good friend Stephen Smyth and his new album is due for release in the autumn.
